Expressive Still Life

"Workshop on Still life in Expressionism"

Every Thursday @ 7-9pm

Expressionism

A modernist movement, initially in poetry and painting, originating in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century. Its typical trait is to present the world solely from a subjective perspective, distorting it radically for emotional effect in order to evoke moods or ideas.

This month's exhibit  roots in expressionism, as it takes from modern art, design, culture and other art movements to create an expression of thought and emotion. The featured artists this month are a great example of how art expresses contemporary art.

Still life doesn't have to be realistic

Discover the timeless appeal of still life paintings and drawings. What is a still life? What are the main themes and meanings in still life art? Explore these questions here!

Every week we display a found object and as a group we try to create it on a 5x7 inch canvas board. You may choose to use paint or you can simply draw on paper.  The idea is to re-create the found object in a fun and artistic way.

What is your own style of drawing, painting and creative thinking? Come explore your ways of drawing.

There is no experience required for the event.

All the materials will be included and you will get to go home with your own masterpiece.

There will be refreshments for sale at the café upstairs.

Participants will learn about brush strokes, painting mediums, composition in art and art styles and movements. The host works with your skill level to ensure you have a good time and go home with a nice painting.
